The thriller in Manila
Why was that held in MANILA?

That seems an odd gaff to host a world title fight

He's well spoken for someone whose head is used as a punching bag, great record as well, 49 fights unbeaten and won most by knockout

Obviously it sounds better than " The thriller in Vegas".

Maybe Aston Villa would have been a better venue?

Hagler's my favourite ever fighter, Benn and Hearns close seconds. that Mugabi fight left a mark on both men

Re: The thriller in Manila
Mugabi was called The Beast but Hagler really was a beast. He could take punches and just dismiss them.
Went on a youtube boxing binge a few weeks and and Lloyd Honeygan's dismantling of Don Curry is the one that stood out. It is Curry's creeping realisation that there is absolutely nothing he can do that got me. What must it feel like if you were convinced that you were invincible?

Zeb.

My mates and me used to go to Mile End odeon to see the big fights beamed over from the U.S. Apart from the fights these were some great nights out. And yea the Benn fight was another that was sheer brutality.

One of the best fights I have seen live albeit on TV. Benn/McLellan was pretty astonishing too - Saw that in a packed Irish pub near the Elephant. Almost as much fighting going on in the pub - all in all a night out I will remember for ever.
